I recently upgraded my copy of VMware from 5.5 to 6.0. For the most part I have been very happy with 5.5, but recently I have had some minor issues with running Windows Vista and with some of the hardware on my Thinkpad T61. I am happy to report the upgrade has fixed all of my issues. In fact, the updates to the virtual display adapter drivers were worth the price of admission alone. 5.5 did not properly support running on a widescreen display but the 6.0 takes full advantage of the extra width of my widescreen laptop display. Plus, it now has support for USB 2.0 devices (like my flash drive and my external hard drive) and support for 64-bit host and guest operating systems. I would say it was definitely worth the cost to upgrade.

Wow. I knew that running my own business as an independent consultant would be a lot of work, but you really don’t get it until you experience it. The good news is that I have had plenty of billable work to keep me busy. The bad news is that I have been scrambling trying to keep the rest of my life in order. Work was easier when somebody else handled the bookkeeping, the insurance and the sales and marketing.
I’m not complaining though. I haven’t had this much fun working in years. Unfortunately some things have slid, including this blog. As I get more comfortable with running a business, I hope to remedy that situation.
I have teamed up with two other consulting friends of mine and we are working together doing system integration with the Microsoft BizTalk platform. This wasn’t what I planned on doing initially, but the opportunity was too good to pass up. So for now, I am going to run with it and see where this path leads. If you happen to be reading this and are in need of system integration, you can find us on the web at http://www.stonedonut.com.
