I recently bought a copy of VMware so I can install Windows XP and my MSDN tools at home. All of my home computers are Linux boxes. (Gentoo and Fedora Core, for those who care) I’m looking forward to getting a Windows virtual machine setup so I can play with some of the stuff in the .NET world at home.
Last night I installed the VMware software on my Gentoo box, and managed to get the virtual system to boot from CD-ROM. My next step will be to install Windows XP and see how well it performs.

As of last night, my house is ready for me to move into. I will be packing and cleaning all next week in preparation. If everything goes according to plan, I will be loading up the truck and moving in on Saturday, April 2.

I blame my lack of posting on the flu. I spent most of last week feeling like death warmed over. Even now, I’m still fighting the effects of a chest cold. Hopefully I’ll be back to my usual self soon.

From Jeremy Zawodny.
I have been using Lookout to index and search my Outlook email for some time now. For the most part it works pretty well. I have tried the various desktop search tools from Google, Microsoft, and Yahoo but could not find a compelling reason to switch.
Until now. Google has released version 1.0 of Google Desktop. This version adds the ability to index Firefox, Thunderbird, PDFs, and various media formats. If that is not enough to whet your appetite, they have also added a plugin API so anybody can create a search plugin for their favorite file type. I am happy to say that GDS has become my local search weapon of choice.

My good friend Nate has started his own blog. There isn’t much there at the moment, but I expect him to post some cool stuff.

Update: I should probably warn potential viewers that Nate has posted some pictures of his son’s potty training progress. You have been warned.

As of yesterday morning, I am now a homeowner. If everything goes as planned, I will be picking up my keys later today. I should be moving in sometime within the next couple weeks. I need to fix a couple of small things before I take up residence in the house first. Both bathrooms have leaking fixtures, and I figure it might be a good idea to have at least one complete bathroom before I move in.
Overall, this has been a really neat experience. I have learned quite a bit about the whole process. Now all I need to do is acquire some furniture.
